Every home has a rhythm, and ours is woven with texture, colour, and a deep respect for the people who make things by hand.

Bhadohi has been doing this for roughly four hundred and fifty years. The account handed down here is that Persian weavers travelling the Grand Trunk Road in the sixteenth century, during Akbar's reign, stopped at a village called Madhosingh and stayed — and that hand-knotting, unknown in these fields until then, took root and never left. What grew out of it was neither Persian nor local but something in between: the medallions and floral borders of one tradition worked by the hands and in the palette of another. Under Shah Jahan the looms took on silk and pashmina. Four centuries later the same belt, Bhadohi and Mirzapur together, sends out close to eighty per cent of India's handmade carpets, and the district alone carries the GI mark for the handmade carpet of Bhadohi.

It is also a town that has spent those four centuries working under other people's labels. Something like a million rural artisans here weave for export — to America, to Germany, to Japan — and almost none of what leaves carries the name of the person who made it. That is the part we started this to change. Not the craft, which needs no help from us, but the anonymity around it.

The Tuft & Thread House was born from a desire to bring the soulful touch of handmade artistry into the modern living space. Leaving behind the structured, high-speed demands of the corporate world allowed me to build something deeply personal: a sanctuary where raw creativity and rich regional heritage could seamlessly intertwine.

I realised early on that what makes an object worth owning does not come off a mass-produced assembly line. It comes from the deliberate, intentional skill of the person making it. The vision was clear from the beginning: to build a brand that honours the deep-rooted textile traditions and diverse crafting techniques of my home in Uttar Pradesh, while speaking a distinctly fresh, contemporary design language.

The studio is a dynamic space of constant, hands-on exploration, celebrating a wide spectrum of handmade crafts. The rhythmic punch and tactile warmth of creating custom tufted rugs, plush statement mirrors, and woven bath mats and poufs sit alongside the delicate, intertwined loops of fine crochet. Every single piece is a dedicated labour of love. I draw daily inspiration from beautifully diverse mediums, carefully blending the earthy, mirrored geometry of traditional Lippan art with the intricate, meditative knotting of macrame wall hangings. Whether sculpting whimsical, structural pipe cleaner art or pouring sleek, modern resin designs, the process always reflects a commitment to finding joy and aesthetic harmony in wool, clay, cord and glass.
